90er party at Velodrome: Vengaboys live

Last night I went to the popular “Die 90er Mega Sause” 90s party. I’ve been once before when I saw Haddaway, but on Saturday night the Vengaboys (who are from Holland, by the way) were playing. Now, I’m not the biggest fan of 90s music, but who could possibly turn down the chance to see a 90s cultural icon that is responsible for this?

The night started out with pre-drinks at my apartment in Friedrichshain before heading out to the 90s party. We arrived, skipped the line because we’d pre-bought our tickets and then got stuck waiting in line for the coat check (Garderobe). Eventually we got through and watched the Vengaboys from the stadium seats. Cocktails and drinks were pricey (€4 for a beer; €6.5 for a rum+coke) but the atmosphere was fun. Who doesn’t love the 90s?!

The crowd was on the older side—people who obviously lived the 90s when they were in the coolest era of their lives…unlike me who never even had a sip of alcohol in the 90s.

Verdict for the night: totes fun, but sometimes a bit dorky. Also: I don’t think I heard the Spice Girls even once at the 90s party! What’s that about?!?

Boom boom.

90S PARTY! This is amazing. Although I feel kinda old now…I remember when I was at university (2004-07), the 80s parties were the in-thing. Now it’s the 90s…new decade I guess. I love The Vengaboys. Especially the song they did about STDs which used computer language as innuendos. “Your hard-drive was not protected / And now I am infected”, lots of talk about joysticks and clicking…

And also Boom Boom Boom Boom!

Thanks Tom! 80s parties were always pretty popular in the USA, too, but I definitely remember going to a 90s party or two back in the ’00s as well.

      Vengaboys ROCK!
